Hero v. Villain: Developing Plot Through the Character of Protagonists and Antagonists

A villain is the hero of his own story - and is every bit as important as the heroic characters. This workshop identifies and examines the motivations of the 16 literary villain archetypes, and shows what happens when heroes and heroines turn to the dark side.  Participants will learn to craft dynamic protagonists and antagonists with believable motivations, and to use their characters to develop a satisfying plot where heroic qualities grow and triumph over strongly fashioned villains.

The Heroes / Heroines will be combined with the discussion about villains, because the villains are the dark side of each of those.   The morning session will be devoted to the archetypes and we will explore how they interact in the afternoon session -- with exercises included.

Presenter: Tami Cowden

I'm one of those people who always wanted to be a writer but did a lot of other things instead. After practicing law for ten years, I finally started writing fiction. That was in 1997, and I've come a long way since then, have published dozens of short stories and over one hundred articles. My first novel, Cruising for Love, won RWA’s Golden Heart Check out my Writing in Nevada blog!

Tami is author of Fallen Heroes: Sixteen Master Villain Archetypes and a coauthor of The Complete Writer’s Guide to Heroes & Heroines: Sixteen Master Archetypes.
